DISCUSSION ON MALE VIOLENCE. VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN. CANCEL CULTURE.
I apologise, that was clickbaity somewhat, lol, slapbet. I do love a good old fashion slapbet. No one would ever take me up on one though. I had to scare a man into slapping me once, I did ask nicely three times first, and he was a friend. Anyway, that’s a different story.
Will Smith. Here we have a man who is being crucified. Banned from the Oscars for ten years. Projects are being cancelled. This is costing and will cost him millions. Now it won’t send him broke. He’ll recover from this, no doubt.
Is what he did wrong? Without a doubt, absolutely wrong. He should have handled it better. There’s a slew of people saying how he should’ve handled it, how they would’ve handled it. I’ll say it right here, right now. Loud and clear.
UNTIL YOU’VE LIVED HIS LIFE AND BEEN PUT IN THAT POSITION, YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW YOU WOULD HANDLE IT.
Plain and simple. I’d like to THINK I’d have done better. I like to think I would have slapped the shit out of Chris Rock backstage, and any of his crew or security that laid a hand on me. I know I would have also said the same thing. But, I don’t KNOW that.
Should he be punished for what he did? Yes, there should be some form of punishment. Violence is not welcome in our society in any form. I know what I said in the paragraph before. I’m not perfect, far from it. I am working on that. Does the punishment fit the crime? Put simply in comparisons, no. No it does not.
Why are we holding ENTERTAINERS to a higher standard than people in positions of AUTHORITY? A person in a position of authority, Police, Politicians, Religious leaders. You see where I am going with this right? Throw a stone at any of those three.. especially the middle one and the last one. In my opinion of course. Look at the last elected leader of the US. Look at the current leader of my country, Australia. Look at the current leader of the UK. The lies alone are just ridiculous. Their views and their actions in the treatment of women. I’d rather have Will Smith lead to be frank.
Let’s look at crime. Very recently I saw a news article of a man being sentenced to 10 years, finally, after a long fight by his partner for justice, who he hit in the head with a sledgehammer and put her in a coma for a period of time.
WHO HE HIT IN THE HEAD WITH A SLEDGEHAMMER!!!
Now I wanted to make sure I was being factual. So I thought a quick google search would quickly turn this horrific crime up in the feed. How wrong was I? How. Wrong. Was. l?
After half an hour, I felt so sick and disgusted. I still hadn’t found the actual article. Article after article of male violence against women and children, death, disabilities, etc. Horrendous suffering. I’m not going to go into more detail. Because frankly I still feel sick.
Do their punishments fit their crime? I ask you. If you were in that situation, as a family member, as the victim.
I don’t even know what any of their punishments were. But we all know it would have been less than the 10 years in the recent one that made the news. And that guy won’t do 10 years. Be out in 7 maybe 6 years. Will he be rehabilitated? Will his attitude and respect for women, or even will his respect towards life be any different? Will just his ability to show compassion towards another human being be any different? I doubt it, given the track record of any prison system in any of the so-called developed nations, let alone developing nations. I highly doubt it.
So taking all that in, does the punishment Will Smith is receiving fit the crime? Hell no it doesn’t. It’s excessive and heavy-handed thanks to cancel culture. Let’s not address the issues that led him to act that way. The patriarchy that needs dismantling, for starters.
The “joke”.
Let’s address the “joke”. Was it funny?
No. Not in the slightest. Even without the understanding of what Jada Pinkett-Smith has been going through. It’s not funny. Even for a “GI Jane joke”. It would only be funny to some people, with an inkling of what she’d been through. So, not funny to most people. This leads me to…. Chris Rock.
Ahh, Chris Rock. Chris, Chris, Chris. Did he know about her condition? He hasn’t been living under that rock of his for a while now. He knew. His reaction to being slapped and Will’s response, he knew. He damn well knew. I don’t care what his people say. He knew.
The “joke” was not funny, was inappropriate and uncalled for, and I lost a lot of respect for Chris Rock that day, and a little for Will Smith, who should have tried to handle it more discreetly. It still would have made the tabloids, but cancel culture would be trying to cancel Chris Rock instead.
Rant Over.
